In 1993, the Jaime V. Ongpin Fund was created by Mr. Roberto V. Ongpin with the Ateneo Scholarship Foundation Inc. to provide the JVO Scholarship to deserving financially-challenged Filipino elementary school graduates in Ateneo high schools in the country. JVO Scholarship started in School Year 1994-1995 with ten JVO Scholars in four Ateneo high schools: Ateneo de Manila University, Ateneo de Naga University, Ateneo de Zamboanga University, and Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan.
Succeeding these four schools, Scholarship seats were made available in the Ateneo de Davao University in SY 1996-1997, and in the Sacred Heart School - Ateneo de Cebu and Ateneo de Iloilo - Santa Maria Catholic School in SY 2010-2011. JVO Scholarship seats reached 200 yearly starting in School Year 2016-2017 in these seven Ateneo high schools.
JVO Scholarship was made available in Xavier School Nuvali in School Year 2020-2021. Benefactor Mr RVO passed away on 5 February 2023 and in the summer of 2023 at the start of School Year 2023-2024, the RVO Foundation Inc. renamed the scholarship the Roberto V. Ongpin - Jaime V. Ongpin Scholarship or RVO-JVO Scholarship.
