Makati City, Philippines - On November 10-11, 2018, all 200 JVO Scholars from 7 Ateneo high schools, save 5 who could not attend, gathered for the first time to meet their scholarship benefactor and each other from the different Ateneo high schools, and for a memorable weekend of activities in Makati City, hosted by Mr. Roberto V. Ongpin at the Alphaland Makati Place. The two-day event was organized by Mr. Ongpin’s team and the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU). It brought together scholars, Father Presidents, administrators, and chaperones from the seven Ateneo schools across the country.

Day 1: A Blend of Sports and Fellowship

The weekend began with participants traveling to Makati by airplane or by bus as was the preference of the Ateneo de Naga contingent, all travel and meals and accommodations expenses taken care of by Mr. Roberto V. Ongpin. The JVO Scholars with their chaperones arrived at the Alphaland Makati Place after noon on the 10th of November 2018 and checked in at The Alpha Suites, all except the Ateneo de Manila contingent since their are not out-of-towners. The afternoon kicked off with a spirited sports fest 2:30-5:00 pm at The City Club's indoor sports facility on the 4th floor of the Alphaland Makati Place. Some of the scholars competed in futsal, badminton, and basketball, fostering teamwork and camaraderie, while the others cheered. Following the sports fest, the scholars took a break to freshen up before gathering at the Atrium at 6:30 pm for a program and dinner. The program marked by a warm and welcoming atmosphere, included speeches from esteemed guests: Ateneo de Manila University President Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin SJ; Darlene Jean Ranoco, JVO Scholar from the Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu; Michael Rainiken O. Trifalgar, JVO Scholar from the Ateneo de Iloilo – Santa Maria Catholic School; Mr. Rafael G. Ongpin, son of the late Mr. Jaime V. Ongpin after whom Mr. Roberto V. Ongpin named the JVO Scholarship; and Mr. Roberto V. Ongpin, the benefactor of the JVO Scholarship, renamed to RVO-JVO Scholarship at the start of School Year in 2023-2024, the 30th anniversary of the Scholarship. The night concluded with seven musical numbers by the scholars from the seven Ateneo schools, showcasing their talents and further strengthening their bonds.
